The Mare Certification Testing

IMPORTANT: Horses must be at least 8 years old to be tested! Any horse sent in under 8 will just be ignored. If the horse is certified then it cannot race in flat track races or harness races.

Welcome to the Backstretch's Mare Certification Center. This is where we test mares and decide which are the Star Quality Dams. The mares certified by this association are the ones that people always want their stallions to breed to. Othe people pay extra to get foals from these mares also. But, it is very hard for your mare to become certified. She must be sent down for testing for one week. If we think she is worth our time then she must stay for another week. If your mare is chosen to stay the second week, you will receive an email stating this. At the end of the second week she will be sent back to you with either a certificate of approval or certificate of non-approval. You may only send in your horse to be tested a maximum of once a month and you must wait for the results back before you try again because you never know! :) There is also a $150 deposit. If anything at all happens to your horse, we use that and pay whatever else it costs to fix him so you wont have to go through all of the trouble of doing that. If she stays ok, the $150 is sent home with your horse. The schedule will be as follows:

Sunday: Breezed for a half mile on the track
Monday: Not worked, Pedigree is studied, Vet check
Tuesday: Slow gallop over the pastures for a mile and a half
Wednesday: Not worked, Foals records studied, breeding exam by vet
Thursday: Worked on longe line for 45 minutes
Friday: Not worked, Show record studied, Temperament Check
Saturday: Trail Ridden, Study of handling from the ground, Descicion made

If it is chosen that she gets to stay another week, the schedule stays the same except all of the work is done by different riders, handlers, and vets. If your horse becomes certified, (MAC) will be added before her name. Example: Free Chance becomes (MAC)Free Chance That (MAC) stands for Mare Association Certified, stating that she is truly a great dam.
