Questions

What is RWTB?

RWTB Stands for: Rosenbach Warrior Training Branches it is a fellowship of Martial Artists in the Midwest of the United States headed by Soke James Rosenbach and is dedicated to promoting realistic and effective fighting combat principles such as the ones established by Robert Bussey.

Do You Have Tenets That You Regularly Chant During or After Class?

RWTB uses quite a few Tenets but the staple have remained the same and show our belief in Christian Morals; they are taken straight from the bible(Galatians 5:22-23):

A full list of our school tenets can be found by clicking here.

Do Injuries Occur Very Often In Class?

Actually no. Even though the training is realistic and explosive injuries thankfully are not very common. Of course everyone gets the occasional bumps and bruises but about the same as many far less physical sports.

What is RWTB's Stance On The Issue of Weapons Instruction?

The best way to describe RWTB's stance on weapons instruction is to quote Keith Jones's book King of Combat "[RWTB] views weapon skills as an extension of the individual's own body and thus teaches them in the same natural, fluid ways as empty hand skills. For this reason, members are taught to continue using the entire body in conjunction with the particular weapon. So for example, along with sword movements such as slashes, cuts and stabs, kicking and striking skills along with take downs and tie ups, are used to utilize every resource together as a single fighting unit."

Is There A Ranking System in RWTB?

Yes having a rank system provides an insiprational means of setting and attaining goals. However the skills that are attained are given more emphasis than individual rank. In recnet years RWTB has added the purple belt rankings in an attempt to better instill the discipline and hard work that it takes to acheive the higher ranks.

Is Weight Training Important for Martial Artists?

You may get conflicting information about this depending on your sources but lets look at it rationally. Inflexibility is a problem because it restricts movement. Most would argue that if you get too big you can't move. Well that just depends on your flexibility. My recommendation is that strong muscles are a plus, just make sure to stretch properly before during and after working with weights. (You stretch during weight lifting by using your full range of motion. Also by working with dumbells and free weights you can acheive a greater stretch on your movements)If you are looking for a lean muscular build and are interested in fat-loss it is almost mandatory to add weight (resistance) training as muscle aids in the burning and break down of fat.

Why does everyone refer to Mr. Rosenbach as Sabum?

Mr. Rosenbach has a long history with Tae Kwon Do, he taught Tae Kwon Do classes for many years, before R.B.W.I. blended several fighting arts together (pioneering one of the first hybrid styles ever, hybrid styles pre-date and serve as a precursor to the Mixed Martial Arts).

In Tae Kwon Do 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Dan instructors are classed as "Bo Sabum nim" 4th, 5th, and 6th Dan International instructors are classed as "Sabum nim" Another source says: "Sa-beum-nim: Tae Kwon Do; is a title given to a teacher, equivalent to 'Master'"

"Sabum" is a shortened version of this term for instructor. This nickname/title has remained with him since those early days.

Not all of this information is original. In fact much of it is adapted from a number of sources such as: Keith Jones's book King of Combat, Books written By Robert Bussey, Articles featured in "Ninja Magazine," Ideas that may have been conveyed by Mr. Rosenbach in class, ideas submitted by other instructors and so on.
