1959 sure seems a long time past, but the memories last a lifetime...
The OLD Prep on 24th and California...Beale's Diner, (that memorable greasy spoon, across 24th) at 7 AM...Demerits, demerits, demerits...Putrid hot dogs from the "candy store"...Football Friday Nights at old Creighton Stadium, followed by the Sock Hop at the CU gym...Sullivan, Shinners and the Profs...Leahy, Allen and Brosnihan... Did I mention DEMERITS ?????... Mercy, Marian, Duschene... "Jugs" (not associated with the previous )...The "Mercy Honk"...the Cattle Drive up the stairs after "lunch", the heat in the Fall and the cold in the Winter..."Gimee your card, Kid"...Caesar's Gaelic Wars...The "C" club...Aksarben skate nights...The Criss-Crosser and Sodality Ball...morning Mass at St. John's...and who could forget dancing to the big band sounds of Eddie Haddad at Peony Park...The Skyview, Golden Spike and the "Q-Twin"...burgers and a drive-around at Tiner's...the FIRST senior lounge...Did I mention DEMERITS?
Well, it's now almost 45 years later and yet the time seems like only yesterday. Fortunately, we all look the same as we did then...well, MOST of us.
Our Class had the honor to be THE Class that experienced the glory days of "THE OLD PREP" and to be the FIRST Class to graduate from "THE NEW PREP".
Now, "The NEW PREP" has become the ONLY Prep for those 40+ Classes that followed.
