My Chemical Biography

Based out of New Jersey, My Chemical Romance got started in the early 2000s. "I was doing animation in New York City, living in my mother's basement," states Gerard, "and I was really starting to question the direction of my life. So I called Matt, who'd been asking himself a lot of the same questions. We decided we would get together and play some music." The first song that they came up with was called "Skylines and Turnstiles" because of Way's job in animation in New York City."The song, 'Skylines And Turnstiles,' came out pretty good. So I decided to call Ray, who is the best guitarist I know." states Gerard. Soon Ray join the group.

Lifting their name from the description of a Irvine Welsh novel, My Chemical Romance's lineup was complete after Way, Pelissier, and Toro joined forces with bassist Mikey Way (Gerard brother) and guitarist Frank Iero. With everything in place, the band started playing all around the Northeast Corridor finally landing a deal with Eyeball Records.

In 2002, Eyeball Records released My Chemical Romance's debut album, I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love. Reviewers of the album have cited Morrissey, Misfits, the Cure, and the Smiths as some of the influences for this record. Gerard has even cited Iron Maiden as another influence. Way has been quoted as saying that the band's lyrics to I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love was a great way for him to deal with the problems he had been going through which included alcoholism and depression.

MCR later signed to Warner in 2003, and released the follow-up, 'Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge'. Shortly after the release of the album, MCR parted ways with their original drummer, Matt and was quickly replaced by new drummer, Bob out of Chicago, Illinois. The band has been in a constant state of touring for about two years with Warped and Taste of Choas tours and have now decided to take some time off to record a new album. In March MCR will be releasing a CD/2DVD set called Life in the Murder Scene. Rumors flew that the band was breaking up but they turned out to be FALSE. This will not be the last we heard of this band.
