Native bead working comes in all styles, there is eastern, northern plains, southwestern, central desert, and southeastern us, as the styles vary greatly in format, its easy to tell which of the area style is being used. For instance the southwestern style has a distinctive
Layout in that it looks like brick work only in miniature. The same goes for all the other styles.
Much like this Item for example, entitled:
Thunderbirds. It is done in the southwestern peyote stitch and features a Mandan / Hidatsa design called Thunder Birds, which is related to the Water Buster and Low cap Clans.
The second piece seen here is entitled: Barry's and is a bracelet made with the loom style it was made for an associate and features a "century" design which according to Hidatsa belief is said to give longevity.
