The hardship Denny’s encountered in the early 90’s should be viewed as a crisis, not simply a string of failures. At the time of the occurrences, Flagstar Inc, Denny’s parent company, was “riddled with debt and a corporate culture firmly locked in the past” (Adamson 2000). In addition, the problems were not limited to a few stores; they were happening everywhere across the United States. According to class lecture, crisis is defined as “a moment of decisive intervention,” which is exactly what happened to Denny’s restaurant. Denny’s was losing customers and respect. Their reputation was deteriorating and something needed to be changed in order for Denny’s to restore their image.
