OK this story was just to challenge myself, to see if I could actually write a Buffy/Riley story. Well I sort of did, I couldn't finish the whole song, but you get the point. I don't own Buffy or the song, which btw is sung my Jessica Riddle and is called Even Angel's Fall. The story takes place as Riley leaves at the end of Into the Woods.

Riley Finn sighs shutting his eyes and trying to block any thought out of his mind as the chopper takes off. Try as he might he can't stop thinking about the one woman he had ever fallen in love with, but had broken her heart in the end.

~*~Found true love, Lost your heart
Now you don't know who you are~*~

Riley had built his entire existence lately around Buffy Summers. He had turned his back on the military, the thing that had once meant everything to him. And now when things were over he went crawling back to the military...this wasn't the man he had once been, and now he no longer knew who that man was or who he was becoming.

~*~She made it easy, she made it free
Made you hurt 'til you couldn't see
Sometimes it stops; Sometimes it flows
But baby that is how love goes~*~

He had never been sure about love before, never known how you got the relationship his parents had. Despite the fact that they made their marriage look so effortless Riley had to imagine that it was harder then they made it look. And yet everything with Buffy had started out so easy, she had caused him to fall in love with her immediately it seemed. And yet everything with her seemed to back and forth and he could never seem to figure her out. Sometimes she seemed as in love with him as she was with her, and yet there were other moments he wasn't even so sure she would care if he walked away and left without so much as a good-bye.

There were times when Buffy made him seem like he had to be in Heaven, because nothing could be any better than holding her in his arms. But then there were times like this when he didn't think he could feel any worse .

That's the way its supposed to be~*~

He still didn't understand love, he had been in such a deep relationship with Buffy and he still didn't understand any of it, didn't understand her. But then again, maybe he wasn't meant to.
