Chapter 7

They came home to find Rebecca asleep on the couch. Willow or Dawn must have placed a blanket around her and turned off the TV. Buffy studied the five-year old, thinking how cute she was. And she can be mine, Buffy realized. I can see her grow up.

“I’m going to take her upstairs with me,” Buffy announced to Spike. She reached out and picked the little girl up. “We really need to get her a room. Maybe Xander could partition the basement off?”

“So, we’re going to keep her?” Spike asked, optimistic.

Buffy smiled. “I’ve grown attached to her.”

Spike grinned back.

The slayer carried her bundle to her room. Spike came along. He watched the woman he loved lay their daughter down on the bed. She tucked the comforter snuggly around Rebecca, kissing her cheek.

Rebecca stirred. Her eyes opened into slits. “Mommy?” she asked sleepily.

“That’s right, sweetie,” Buffy acknowledged, accepting the role.

At the doorway, Spike watched with pride. These were his girls, along with another down the hall. Buffy looked over at him. “You can stay if you’d like,” she offered.

Spike came over. He shed his coat and got comfortable on the bed. “Night, itzy.”

Rebecca closed her eyes. “Night, Daddy. Night, Mommy.”

The new parents kept vigil as Rebecca drifted off to sleep. The vampire stroked her hair, tenderly, wishing she would dream of puppies and rainbows, instead of death and gloom.

“She’s mine,” Buffy murmured in awe.

“That she is,” Spike agreed.

“She’s also yours, and we’ll take care of her ‘together’.”

The intensity of her eyes made him take in a breath. He tried to control the hope that was rising in his chest. He wanted to touch her. He longed for that kiss Buffy had about to give him in the cemetery. But he remained still with uncertainty.

“Are you trying to tell me something, pet?” he dared to ask.

To his amazement, Buffy took his hand. “Maybe. I think maybe I am.”

“And . . . What might that be?”

“This.”

She pulled him up slightly, leaned over, and placed her lips on his. He couldn’t help but put his arms around her. He had missed this. He never knew how cold he was until he had known her kiss. She possessed a fire that spread through his entire body. Unlike before, however, the flame not only touched him physically, but also seeped warmth into his soul.

She pulled back, leaving him bereft. “Buffy . . .”

She ended his words by placing her fingers over his mouth. “We’ll see exactly what I’m saying. Just give me some time.”

“I have forever,” he replied.

Clorinda crept into the dark chamber, lit only by a few candles. Ethan stood before a table. His hands were resting on a red sphere. The ball glowed with life. The male vampire had his eyes closed, in a meditation.

The vampiress waited patiently until the sphere dimmed to a murky brown. Ethan came out of his trance and turned toward her. He flexed his arm, testing out the feel of his muscles.

“Satisfied, my lord?” Clorinda asked her lover.

“I feel refreshed. Every time I use the Radion I swear it gives me more power,” he informed.

“I’m glad, Ethan.”

Ethan grabbed his woman and crushed his mouth to hers. His hands roamed over her back.

There was suddenly a pounding on the door. Ethan released Clorinda, annoyed.

“Who is it?” boomed Ethan.

“Master, it is I, Lucas,” came a voice outside the door.

“Ah, Luce, I am no longer hungry. Chain the meal up. Maybe they can amuse me later on.”

“Master, I must speak with you. It is of grave importance,” Lucas said.

Ethan sighed. “Come in then.”

The door opened. Lucas timidly entered the room. He approached the vampire couple, his king and queen. He got down on one knee before them.

“I have not brought you a meal,” the lowly vamp informed.

“Why the hell not!?” Fury built up in Ethan. When he gave orders he expected them to be fulfilled.

“I-I have found her!” Lucas said in a rush.

Ethan’s eyes widen. “The child?”

“Yes, sire. She is with the slayer.”

“The slayer? Are you sure?”

“Yes,” Lucas told him. “I overheard her and the traitorous William the Bloody talking about her. They have taken the girl in under their custody.”

A toothy grin came on Ethan’s face. “I feel that this will be more rewarding that I ever imagined. With my newly charged strength from the Radion I have the means to capture the child and ruin the slayer’s life.”

So, yeah, there is chapter 7. Kinda short, I know, but I felt that that was a good place to stop. Ya know how it is. Anyways, sorry it has been awhile since I’ve posted, but I wanted to end my fic Until Eternity.
