Magic in the Shadows

For Shadowrun III

By Stephen Kenson

Magic in the Shadows for SRIII      This book is one of the best sourcebooks available for Shadowrun. Dedicated only to the magical side of the shadows, it includes rules for new spells, new totems, idols, geasa, Paths of Discipline, creation of Awakened Characters, enchanting magical items, alchemy, Talismongering, Initiation and Metamagic, and many other valuable pieces of information. I have read through it twice, and can guarantee that I would find even more information on the third time through.

While much of the information is aimed at the players and the abilities of their characters, the Game Masters will find that there is plenty of information that is meant to be used on developing the abilities of their opponents, such as the Toxic Shamans, Insect Shamans, and the Blood Magic of Aztlan. I found that these sections were extremely helpful in explaining these areas of the game, but I will probably keep the creation of foci in the realm of the NPCs.

While I find it unlikely that every bit of the information included in this book will be absorbed into your campaign, I would be willing to bet that any GM or player with an Awakened character will find at least one section that is full of great information.

There are a large number of new sources of information in this sourcebook. Among the most unique are

The cover price of this sourcebook is $20.00, and I highly recommend it to anybody who deals with magic in Shadowrun on a regular basis.
