In this latest installment of Lord Soth's existence, he is trying to retain control of his kingdom in Ravenloft while multiple enemies try to take it from him. This story features the return of such memorable characters as Azrael and Magda, the gypsy. This time, as Soth fights to maintain his control, he hears rumors that the White Rose has returned to his accursed land.

     Lord Soth's mysterious White Rose is still a mystery to him - could it be the spirit of Kitiara, trapped in this land with him? Or is it something else entirely? Another spectre from his past, or an entirely new opponent to challenge him?

     This latest novel by James Lowder is exceptional. The plot is very intricate, and keeps the reader guessing throughout the novel. It contains many unexpected twists and the ending is truly memorable.
