Recently, TSR published the 25th Anniversary Edition of the classic module, "Keep on the Borderlands". The new module, "Return to the Keep on the Borderlands", brings the new characters to the keep, 25 years later. The original lord of the keep is gone, and his Castellan maintains the keep, awaiting the arrival of a suitable heir. The lands around the keep are still wild, and troubles have started again. There are plenty of adventures for young adventurers in the woods and swamps around the stronghold, and, of course, there are the Caves of Chaos.The infamous Caves were the source of hundreds of adventures, and with this reprint, the Caves live again. But instead of simply reprinting the original caves and inhabitants, TSR allowed the caves to develop. The inhabitants of the caves have had 25 years to advance. There are new dangers, new inhabitants, and even some of the original survivors are still around.
This is a great module. It will prove to be a great starting point for new characters. I think that it will be a good experience for adventurers, both new and old.
For those of you who remember the original, I think that you will enjoy this module as well. But don't take anything for granted. The survivors in the caves have been there, and survived the occasional adventuring party for decades. And they are waiting for your party, too. Are you up for the challenge?
