Nick's Cafe | February, March & April 2000

This evening's show was recorded on Saturday, April 15 so that I could be in Gardner MA, on stage at The Wachusett Folk Cafe, introducing Greg Brown!

It's a night I will never forget. Greg played 2 very long sets, and seemed to love every minute of it.

Because the intimate space was completely surrounded with white curtains, Greg described the coffeehouse, located in the dining room at Mount Wachusett Community College,
as "The Bull Run on The Starship Enterprise". At first Greg felt strange in this room, but at the end of the evening he told me that he actually liked the room very much.

A sold-out crowd of 300 got to meet yours truly as I nervously told them about the radio show, and then feeling more relaxed I started my intro by saying,
"Well, Greg Brown certainly needs no introduction from the likes of me!", and then proceeded to tell them of my first Greg Brown concert experience, pointed to stage right and said,
"Please welcome Greg Brown!", and in walks Greg...from stage left!

A humorous start to what was a very warm, genuine evening with a true American treasure, Greg Brown.

Tonight's show featured an on-air phone conversation with Greg Brown, and we gave away tickets to see Greg at The Wachusett Folk Cafe on April 20.

Thanks for all your wonderful phone calls, and thanks to Fern & Brian MacDonald for the live recordings.

Next week's show will be on tape, as I'll be at the Greg Brown concert. I hope to meet some of you there.

My thanks to Red House recording artist, Lucy Kaplansky, for calling in to promote some local gigs. It was a pleasure speaking with her about her music.
