Tonight was great fun as I was the DJ for a global party celebrating the music of songwriters Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook of Squeeze. We had folks listening online in Oregon, California, Chicago, Florida, Boston, Canada, Wales, Scotland, and England. (It still boggles my mind!) Thanks to everyone who took part, and thanks for the kind comments. We also heard 3 selections from the "new" Grateful Dead album on Arista Records, Postcards Of The Hanging - Grateful Dead Perform The Songs Of Bob Dylan.

Tonight's show was all over the musical map. Everything from the ridiculous to the sublime. We celebrated Mardi Gras, Carole King's 60th birthday, the anniversary of The Beatles first appearance on the Ed Sullivan show (2.9.64), and we heard new music from The Twangbangers (Bill Kirchen, Redd Volkaert, Dallas Wayne, and Joe Goldmark), The Bottle Rockets tribute to Doug Sahm, Billy Bragg & The Blokes, and Cracker.

Tonight's show featured a career retrospective of Lucinda Williams (from 8 to 10pm) in honor of her birthday. Lucinda was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana on January 26, 1953. The 2 hour special included songs from Lucinda's albums, various tribute albums, and several duets, as well as excerpts from a recent interview. She's been nominated for 4 Grammy Awards this year ~ Best Pop Female Vocal for her album Essence, Best Rock Female Vocal for "Get Right With God", Best Country Female Vocal for "Cold, Cold Heart" from the Hank Williams tribute album Timeless, and Best Contemporary Folk Album, also for Essence. Lucinda has also been named songwriter of the year by Time magazine, and has already written 10 new songs for an album to be released later this year.

Today's horoscope said that people like me better when I "communicate with the aliens", so I tried to get as far out as possible during the second half of tonight's broadcast!
