because. Do not write He died because of cancer. Simply write He died of cancer.

beneficial. Prefer a shorter word: useful/ helpful.

between. See among.

biannual. Avoid. Write twice in a year.

biennial. Avoid. Write once in two years.

blame. Causes, not effects, are blamed. Something is blamed for, not on, some reason.

blind. Use it only in its literal sense. The figurative sense may hurt the feelings of the blind.

bona fide. Two words. An adjective as in a bona fide enquiry.

bona fides. A noun meaning sincerity. It goes with a singular verb. Bona fides is, not are, questioned.

both. Use two wherever possible.

breakthrough. Means a major advance in knowledge. Use with care.

but. Mostly a filler word. Cut it out wherever possible. But is used to show contrast. Yet is used with reference to time.
