On April 1958 a request to open lions clubs in Israel was presented to the international lions center in Chicago. On 1959 in an international convention that took place in Sweden, the request was put to vote before the assembly. Israel's then legendary first prime minister initiated the establishing of lions Israel.
The first lions club was established in Tel Aviv
On March 3rd 1960,and was sponsored by the lions club of Rome. In the same year five other clubs were established in the main cities of Israel. Through the years more lions clubs opened from Nazareth in the north to Beer-Sheba in the south. Today 29 lions clubs are operating in Israel.
Lions Israel has as its target to expand to 50 lions clubs and over 1800 lions members in the next five years.
