If you like your planes to be quick then forget this. If on the other hand you like your planes to be ballistic, guided cruise missiles then buy one of these, or at least have a go with one. With a measly Jett 50 on the front (25,000 rpm with a 10X8 prop) it has got to be hitting 200 mph straight and level. Take it up high though and do a split-S from really high up flat out it whizzes past as god knows what kind of velocity. And at about 10-15 feet high at that speed you have a job to keep up with it.
Unfortunately this plane is now dead. Radio contact was lost while in a diving turn which turned into a spiral and she bit the dirt flat out. Luckily the £250 engine is ok, but the plane is a write off. Mind you, so would you be if you hit the ground at +250 mph head first!
You'll be pleased to know, there is now a Diamond Dust 2, "Dusty". It has the same motor as the last one, and is just as fast. Nick built it to take to Jersey in September 2002. We intend to show the boys down there what fast really is! And this really is fast. It certainly stands out in the air, and has roll rate so quick, it could rip itself apart (it nearly did on the first flight when we tried out the fast rates to see what they did!!!).
