Gary's Swan Hunts

Hunting location- My hunts for swans this year will be concentrated in the southern portions of Ward or McHenry counties.
Season dates- Tentatively, for the fall of 2002 the swan season opener should be Sep 28. Application deadline for the tags is mid-August 2002
Best time for success- Anytime before freezeup. The last two weeks of October being primetime.
How many birds can a person shoot? Like most states which allow swan hunts, only one bird per person a season can be taken.
Suggested gun/ammo for swans- Any gun capable of shooting 1 1/4 oz of BB or larger steel shot.(or similiar size non-toxic shot)
Hunting methods used for swans- I concentrate on observing swan concentrations in various areas. I have several potholes which load up with swans during the fall where we would employ the driven pass-shooting method of hunting for them. This consists of deploying several hunters under the likely escape route of the birds and then flushing them over the hunters for shots.
