Albert Lee Ferris
Turtle Mountain Chippewa Artist

Albert Ferris was born on the Turtle Mountain Chippewa Indian Reservation in 1939.  He spent much of his life in pursuit of perfecting his art, which he saw as a way to help promote and preserve his traditional culture and heritage.  He was talented in illustration, painting, and sculpture.  His best works are now in private collections, but he has selections of his work at the Smithsonian Institute and Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., and a permanent collection is kept at the Turtle Mountain Chippewa Heritage Center in Belcourt North Dakota.  In 1983, he was chosen as one of the best American Indian artists and was honored by President Reagan during the Night of the First Americans.  His talent was ended by his unfortunate death in 1986.
