JESUS IS THE WAY

John 14:6

  1. Intro.
    1. are the things pertaining to life sometimes confusing
    2. do you sometime feel lost, or have a sense of despair
    3. if you do, don’t feel alone
    4. long ago there was a man that stated the problem quit well – Job 14:1
    5. the words spoken by Job express the feelings of many, but there is a way out: JESUS CHRIST
    6. both in this life and in the one to come Jesus is the way
    7. in our study today, let us look at several areas in which Jesus is truly the way
  2. Jesus is the way to a better life – John 10:10
    1. in this verse Jesus states one of His reasons for coming into this world [I am come that …]
    2. this "abundant life" that Jesus offers is more than just life in the "hereafter"
    3. though He does not promise us wealth or luxury, He does assure us of several things
      1. a loving Father in Heaven, Who cares for His children – Matthew 6:31-33
        1. it is not surprising to find that the happiest people in the world are those who have completely committed themselves to Jesus as "THE WAY"
        2. Paul wrote when he was under house arrest that he was content, no matter what his situation was – Philippians 4:11-13
        3. when Peter wrote to Christians undergoing persecution, he could honestly say "rejoice" – I Peter 1:3-8
      2. He is more than sufficient provision for all who are willing to follow Him as "THE WAY"
  3. Jesus is the way to forgiveness of sins
    1. He is the ONLY solution to a very serious problem
    2. the most serious threat to our well-being is SIN
    3. everyone of us is guilty of sin – Romans 3:23
      1. sin is not without its consequences, it is often physical, but always spiritual
      2. unless the problem of sin is resolved, the ULTIMATE consequence is eternity in hell
      3. through Jesus Christ, God has made provision for the forgiveness of our sins
      4. out of love, God offered Jesus as the "propitiation" for our sins – I John 4:9-10
        1. propitiation refers to God's wrath being satisfied by the death of Christ
        2. it emphasizes the removal of sin by the sacrifice that satisfied God
        3. sin interrupts normal relations with God; propitiation removes sin and restores the relationship
    4. through His blood shed on the cross, Jesus provides forgiveness for our sins- Ephesians 1:7
    5. Jesus has done everything necessary to save us, now it is up to us – Acts 16:30-31, John 1:12
    6. there are two important parts of believing (repentance and faith) – Acts 20:20-21
  4. Jesus is the way to God
    1. to be truly happy, we need more than just the forgiveness; we need to be restored into fellowship with God which we lost by our sins
      1. In this also, Jesus is our answer
      2. Jesus came to this world and died to reconcile man with God Romans 5:10
    2. Jesus claimed to be the only way to the Father – John 14:6
      1. we do not truly experience what it means to have "eternal life" without having a relationship with the Father – John 17:3
      2. the "eternal life" Jesus offers to us includes "knowing" the Father as well as the Son
  5. Jesus is the way out of religious confusion
    1. many who wish to follow Jesus are confused by the multitude of churches and the doctrines they teach
    2. we do not have to be a part of this confusion, because Jesus is the answer
      1. if we follow Jesus’ teachings; we will know the truth, and the truth will set us free – John 8:31-32
      2. Mary knew the importance of doing all that Jesus said – John 2:5
      3. Jesus told the people of His day to "search the scriptures" – John 5:39
      4. as we study the Word of God, all confusion will vanish away – II Timothy 2:15
    3. despite the efforts of man and Satan to destroy Jesus’ Church, they shall not prevail – Matthew 16:18
    4. by following Jesus, and being a part of His church is the way to victory and not confusion
  6. Jesus is the way to eternal life
    1. death is inevitable (unless Jesus returns first), and it is followed by judgment – Hebrews 9:27
    2. death is the door that leads to eternal life or eternal condemnation
    3. Jesus is the door that leads to eternal life and peace – John 10:9
  7. conclusion
    1. if you are a Christian, will you serve Jesus with greater zeal
    2. if you are not a Christian, will you let Jesus be your way to life and happiness
