Word from Van Q. Dang
.....YO. My name is Van Q. Dang. I'm writing the sections for the movies because I'm the one who directs them. It's about the most fun ever, doing these movies, although it can be a pain and it's stressful. So far, we've done three "actual" movies, two little commercials for two movies that were never made, and there is still one movie still being edited. We've been doing this since about March 2000, with our first being "Where Did All the Asian Boys Go?" and the latest being "Christmas Only Comes Once a Year." It's been an awesome ride so far, and we are just getting started. Thanks from the all the actors/actresses and me, to all who enjoy the movies. Thanks to our parents and everyone who has helped us by donating stuff or giving us ideas and criticism. Stay tuned and keep watching. Later-

Duy on filming...
.....The first time Van mentioned making a movie to me was an idea of a give away present to Angie and Andrew, whom were to move to Sacramento in a few months. We wanted to give them something they wouldn't forget. Van told me that he was in a filming class and so we could film the movie and then he would edit it at school. I really had no idea of we were getting into. Filming these movies have been a great amount of fun to do. It has totally changed what we talk about when we sitting around. Instead of talking about video games and other things, we talk about new movies ideas.

Video Pho - 0 pictures
.....I LOVE PHO. This project was a short one, a collection of five music videos. Songs included are by Jackson 5, Audio Adrenaline and Skankin' Pickle, and two others. This was the first project we were able to film this year. Being at school I wasn't able to put the time required into filming a movie. With "Video Pho", I just wanted to do something simple, about 20 minutes. Hopefully, we are able to film a "story" movie later this summer. If this project is successful, we will probably shoot another "Video Pho" when the conditions are right.
Where Did All the Asian Boys Go? 45 pictures
.....The first movie we did, and it was shot almost entirely in ONE DAY. The way movies were meant to be made hehe. It was written very roughly by Duy and me (which means it was all improvised). We made it for our friends Angie and Andrew as a going -away present before they left for California. It has a lot of mistakes because I was still new at shooting movies, but, its still one of my favorites. "Asian Boys" pretty much started it all. We didn't plan to keep making movies but after this one was out, we decided, why stop? This movie was inspired by the Scream movies and Mariah Carey.
Mail Order Bride Ninjas 8 pictures
.....This was never meant to be a movie or anything, it was just for fun. Vincent, Nam, Duy and I were pretty bored one night when they came to stay over at my house, and we shot this thing for about two hours in the middle of the night, and finished it up in an hour in the morning. Useless info: The song I used was "Tengo Nada" by Link80 which translates as "I have nothing" in Spanish. Weird. There are only two copies of this also. It turned out pretty good-- I had it played on my school news show, and everyone thought I had three brothers.
Ladies Man 4 pictures
.....One word: "Ugh." This was actually a part of a movie that got scrapped, but I edited this little scene together on my graduation day. The movie got ditched because there was some controversy about little boys being in dresses and make-up. Hey, its all about the art haha. Also, when we were filming, our main actor Peter had to go home. So basically the movie was ruined right from the beginning. Well anyways there is only two copies of this commercial in existence, thank goodness. The little girls danced to N*Sync's "Bye Bye Bye" which is quite annoying to have to listen to, when you have to edit something for three hours. Try it sometime.
Fist of Fooey - 0 pictures
.....This was the first actual movie after "Where Did.." And it wasn't even meant to be a movie. I think we filmed it in about three or four hours. Tim, me, Vincent, Jon, and little Duy stayed the night at Duy's and Nam's. By the end, I was so tired I gave the camera to Duy, who shot about the last half of it as I slept. Again, there was no script. It was a remake of the Jet Li movie "Fist of Legend" which involved a lot of avenging masters and exciting kung fu action, yadda yadda yadda. It was the first movie we edited on my new editing machine, which I spent all summer working for and Duy put it together from scratch. Anyways we were low on actors so we had people play several parts, which got pretty confusing. Even though the script was kind of pointless, I liked the shooting of the movie. The angles and camera movements were smooth. Most of us who made it just thought it was an ok movie, others who saw it actually liked it a lot, like Duy's friends, where it was passed around the school for weeks.
Christmas only comes once a year 19 pictures
.....Written by Vincent (yes we actually used a script this time.) The story was shot and edited in a span of two weeks, because it had to be done by Christmas, obviously. It was 40+ minutes long because it included sections of activities we'd done throughout 2000 (i.e. summer camp) along with the actual story. It was a "year-in-review" type video. We spent a lot of hours shooting because the movie took place in several settings. Vincent's script was really inventive though, and I spent time to draw out almost all the shots. There was a point where we thought it might not get finished, because we lost a main actor two days before the movie had to be finished. Thanks to Leann, who, while sick, filled in the role, and very well too. We put a lot of effort into this movie, not just shooting it for two weeks, but also remember that we had to shoot all the activities throughout the year, compiling it all... This movie was a long time in the making. Extra thanks to the abyf webmaster who helped shoot a lot of parts in the activities sections. We plan to do one of these Christmas movies every year.
Nightmare at 420 18 pictures
.....well excuse the pun, but this movie was a nightmare to make. we shot it in AUGUST OF 2000. thats 7 months ago. and it still has not been released as of this writing. its in my computer right now, undergoing last minute changes. ok first of all, this movie was shot mainly in three days, with some scenes shot separate days because of peter eating old cookie dough which gave him massive diarrhea. even shooting the movie was a pain. if the movie ever gets released, youll notice in the last scene that its RAINING. we shot for an hour in the rain and it was horrible. except for me, i had an umbrella because of the camera, you know... but man, what a mess. finally with delays of school and working on Co Ngoc's wedding video, i had the movie completed. then bamn, it was erased from my computer when sopheap attempted to install a harddrive on my computer. that was in december... finally duy took up the duties of editing the movie. so it should be heading to you anytime now. i liked this movie, although we didnt really follow a script, its a pretty intense movie. its a little scary in some parts, and funny... Plus we got peter, john and andy in it, which doesn't happen too often anymore. actually, ill be happy if it sucks or not, because it will finally be DONE...

MORE MOVIES COMING SOON!!!
