Israel has failed to produce the fruit of faith and righteousness God demands and must repent or face imminent judgement (verses 1-9)
Yet another Sabbath controversy illustrates the insensitivity to human need of the religious leaders, who are more concerned with custom than caring (verses 10-17).
Jesus then warns His listeners not to misunderstand God's kingdom. Rather than coming in glory, it enters humbly and will become glorious (verses 18-21).
Salvation will not come to the nation as a whole, but to individuals who make personal, often difficult, decisions (verses 22-30).
Looking over the "milling" crowds Jesus expresses His deep anguish for the doomed city, whose people utterly refuse to turn to the Lord (verses 31-35)
