UNIT 1-SERVICE

In this unit we learned the basic functions of service and the things that come with a job well done. During this unit, our class went down to the Myers Center Cafeteria and took down all the Christmas decorations. During this project, Ross thought it might take time to finish the job, but in the end it took the entire class only thirteen minutes to take down and put away the decorations. During our debriefing, the class agreed that the main reason for getting the job done that fast was because of the team work that each individual put forth. We also agreed that we all worked faster because we all knew thir would be a reward at the end of a job well done. Lets begin with the first part of the unit, Compensation and Motivation. People just don't work for free, they work because of a money necessity. We also learned that when someone gets a pay raise you see his or hers self-esteem and pride build up. We also learned that Rewards can be an incentive for some one to work a little bit harder than what they normally do. Thats why our class finished the project sooner than expected and it payed off. Symbolic rewards is another thing we learned. It also can bring competition between employees and in the end can turn to jealousy because one employee might think the they deserved the reward more than the person who received it. The last thing that we learned was celebration. A good example of this could be when someone wins a cruise for working hard and another employee might throw them a going away party for that person in celebration. In the end a good job done will pay off well.
