Attention Campbell Students--- Be a part of something really cool!
Hey Campbell Students! My name is Jason Beck and I am a Junior here at Campbell. Many folks who know me already know that I drive a race car over summer vacation! Racing is a sport that involves much time and preparation... just like college! Last year when I was racing I had a sponsor who paid for much of my racing... much like most of us have a scolarship here at Campbell. Many of us would not be in college if not for the contributions of others. Racing is the same way. Without sponsorship it is difficult to continue racing. The level of racing that I'm on is an entry level division, where not much money is needed to race the entire season. But over the winter I need to make several improvements to make my race car safer to drive. I know many of my friends at Campbell do not understand my desire to race, or have misconceptions about what racing is really like. I wish that I could somehow make Campbell students more aware of racing as a sport, just like Football or Basketball.
My brain began to hash up ideas on how to get Campbell students interested in racing, not just my own racing but the sport in general. I feel that if Campbell students followed my progress and my learning the ropes of going fast, they too would begin to appreciate this sport.
I started thinking about how I still needed "financial aid" to get the 2004 racing season off the ground. I began to wonder what would happen if Campbell University sponsered my racing*. I know that since we can't even get 2 ply toilet paper in our dorm's bathroom that it was silly to think that Campbell University would ever give me a penny! Then I began to think WE are Campbell University. I started thinking how cool it would be if all of my friends at campbell gave me just one dollar towards my racing. This would almost be as if Campbell was sponsoring me. I mentioned the idea to my roomate and we wondered what would happen if I tried this.
So... on a trial basis I am curious as to how many campbell students are interested in becoming a part of my race team. If you guys and gals donate ONE DOLLAR to my race team YOUR NAME WILL BE PAINTED SOMEPLACE ON MY RACE CAR! (possibly the hood) This would make you officially part of the #18 team! I think it would be cool to tell all of your friends that you sponsor a race car at a nascar track! Also you would recieve a weekly newsletter over the summer that tracked my progress through out the season.
