What's Here:

Maps. The State Map is a good place to start. It shows N.C.'s current and future major highways. After that, visit the smaller- scale maps for Raleigh, Durham / Chapel Hill, God's Country. A series of Grandfather Mountain region maps covers today and the 1928-1934 era. A collection of Charlotte maps covers today, 1957 and 1923. The page of Greensboro's Future Freeways shows all the new roads the Gate City is getting.

Interstates. Take the On-Ramp, or go straight to:

U.S. Highways. North Carolina has oodles of U.S. highways, from short (U.S. 178) to long (U.S. 64). You can start learning about them all by going to the U.S. Highway List page, and from there you can go to the pages for individual roads. Or check out the list of U.S. highways in 1929.

Secondary Roads. Ever wonder about all those four-digit roads the state has? Many of your questions are answered on the Secondary Roads page.

The Library. Check out some scanned material. Currently on file are a collection of official state maps from 1924 to the present, and some strip maps from 1920s Mixer's Motor Tours books.

State Highways. There are pages for state highways up to N.C. 691. More will be coming. Click on a link to go to a page:

FAQ. What's the ECD? Why are some tables and headers brown and others green? The answers are in the FAQ.
