Locke Township Volunteer Fire Department is located on the West/Southwest
side of Salisbury, in the heart of Rowan County, North Carolina. Locke Fire Department was established in 1956. The department started with two stations and two 1956 International front mount engines.
Today Locke Fire Department covers an area of approximately 46 square miles with 3 stations and 10 pieces of apparatus. The department operates at ALS
Medical Responder level, answering EMS calls, as well as handling fire calls.
Call volume average is approximately 700 calls annually, split 60/40 Fire/EMS.
It serves a community with a population of approx. 11,000 and protects an estimated $775 million in property value. Locke Fire Department now has two full time firefighters from 8-5 Monday through Friday while the remaining department is all volunteer.
How can I join?
The Department has training or a meeting just about every Tuesday night at station 62 which is located on Hwy.150 approximately 3 miles west of Salisbury. Just stop by and an officer will get you an application.
I am only 16, can I join the fire department?
Yes! You may join as a Jr. Fireman until you turn 18 years of age at which time you will become a firefighter.
Jr. firefighters are not able to participate in firefighting activities or ride apparatus.
Jr. firefighters must maintain enrollment in school.
