WORKING UNTO THE LORD?
Colossians 3:23,24

By John Rhinehart

Crown Financial misapplies yet another verse

Program Description: Working 'As Unto the Lord'

The following is a partial transcript of the above program.
Steve Moore: “According to the Bible we are to do our work as working for the Lord himself. How to turn that principle into practice.”

Howard Dayton: “I love this. This is a very powerful passage for Colossians 3:23, 24-- And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ."

Steve Moore: “Seems to me that Paul is telling us that secular work is really a spiritual activity.”

Howard Dayton: “Absolutely. everything we do should be done unto Christ. We work for Christ.”

End.)))))))))))))))
An honest reading of this passage will not bring this conclusion to the reader other than misapplying it by taking it out of context. Paul is giving relationships information to the saints. As to:
Verse 18: Wives be subject to

Verse 19: Husbands love your

Verse 20: Children obey your

Verse 21: Fathers do not provoke

Verse 22: Slaves obey your
It is with Salves that Paul is making this reference too and not to all believers. The reason for this is that free-believers are not slaves to their employers and employers are not their masters. They can leave at their own will. On the other on, Slaves cannot, thus, the instruction from Paul to, "work as unto the Lord."

Believes are not in this category of bond servant because free believers should not work, for example, in an abortion clinic as “unto the Lord.” Nor should they work for any company that is doing something morally wrong. But with this concept of Crown, we should not question anything, even though I am helping killing babies, as “unto the Lord.” See how ridiculous the scriptures would sound and the burdens they put on us when we misapply them? And how ridiculous when your working at a job that your are in turmoil over and to hear believers make this misapplied statement to you as, "Bear with it, your working unto the Lord."

And this can in no way be applied to wives, husbands, children and fathers. From 3:22 to 4:1, slaves and master are being addressed and does not revert back to wives, husbands, children and fathers.

There are other verses we could you instead of try to apply this verse to us. We should use:
“So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God.” 1Cor 10:31
Crown Financial is a ministry one should keep clear of because they put “chains” around believers to live a life contrary to the Word. They put believers into turmoil with abusive employers because they are instructed by Crown and other to “work as unto the Lord.” If they can misapply this simple verse how mush more are they misapplying God’s Word about “money?” The answer is, much more.
