How have the Women’s
Rights changed from then and now?
“Well, when I was younger, the only thing a woman needed was a little geography, to know the rooms to clean, and a little chemistry to know how to boil water. The only jobs women really had were staying at home and taking care of the children, cooking, cleaning and having a loving home to come to when the men got off work. That’s exactly how my dad explained it, and that is just how it was. Today however, women are out working public jobs, and other people are taking care the kids.”
“One thing that really bothered me was that women at that time weren’t allowed to be presidents, or head owners of businesses. In my opinion, women were better qualified to do that. Today, all I have are women running my businesses.”
What about voting
rights have they changed for women?
“When I was first born, about 10 years prior, voting for women had just been accepted. My mom, however felt that if it had been a certain way for years, she didn’t want to have any part in it.”
In your day, you didn’t even think of having women as presidents, so how has this changed?
“Today, women are more involved in society. So I think that having a woman president is highly likely. If we had one, I would definitely vote for her, because as well as men, women could do the job.”
How had Oxford and
Granville County changed from your point of view?
“Oh, wow, when I was younger, there were restaurants, Greek and Italian, that lined the streets of Oxford. We had two movie theaters, and I could even walk down the street to get there. A couple blocks over, there was a bowling alley. Now, when I look back, I’m amazed, because now, I have to drive twenty or thirty minutes to get to any of this.”
What about North
Carolina, how has it changed?
“Well, as a boy, there were a lot of crops. We had snaps, corn, cotton, and especially tobacco. Along the way, that you go to Raleigh there was nothing but nature, woods, and crops. Now everywhere you go, all the places that were crops, are all industry now. It makes me sick, to know that that use to be my free space.”
How has the World changed?
“Honestly, it isn’t the world that has changed, it is the people in it that have changed. There were wars that should have been fought a long time ago, that wouldn’t have caused the problems we have today. Then there are some issues, that we need to leave alone today.”
As I got through out my high school years, there will
be problems that occur, lots of peer pressure.
What is one piece of advice you would want me to hear?
“Well, like I told you alcohol was a major part of my life, and there was only one thing that got me where I am today. God. I wake up everyday, and pray, I go to bed every night and pray. You must trust, trust, trust. Do you mind if we have a prayer?
Sure!
God:
Grant us the serenity, and will to get through the day. Thanks for all that you have given us, and thanks for all that you have promised and for the things that aren’t promised. Be with us through out our days and guide us in the right directions.
-Amen
