Shahjehan Khan A brief autobiography |
|
Have you ever got a
silly name when you were born? I
did, the name was Shahjehan and I like it. I was born May 4, 1966 in Elizabeth
City, North Carolina.
My mom, Mumtaz name
me Shahjehan after the great mogul leader in India. He built the famous Taj
Mahal in Agra, India. Which is great to be name after a king, I can go on top of
the Taj Mahal and said “I’m the king of the world!” and fall off the dome
shape architecture. My name does mean, “King of the Universe”, in which I
could have been king by now and rule the world. However, someone else is taken
over the world. It’s cool to have a name like Shahjehan.
Having a sense of
humor really helps me with my name, because some people do not know how to
pronounce my name, even though it is a foreign, I get tease a lot . I just play along,
and until they get the idea. The
best way to remember my name, if they know how to say Chaka Khan they can say
Shahjehan Khan. We are not related by any chance, tricky part is how to spell
it, that’s a tough one. I
do get nicknames such as Shahje, Shahjekhan, Shahjemahon, these names are okay
as long it has my name, if someone calls me some other name, I would not respond.
People, ask me to change my name for simple reason I would ask what is your
name, they get the idea. Nicknames are good, as long it has my name in it. The prefer
names for me would be Shahjehan, Shahj or Mr. Khan
People always ask me where I am from. I always tell them I was born Elizabeth City, NC. People don’t believe me until I tell them, my dad was born in Bangladesh and my mom was born in Pakistan, and they met and fell in love in Tyler, Texas in 1963. My dad was working as an instructor at a university in Texas. My mom was a student there and they met together in class. Eventually, they got married on May 25, 1963. They got two children Nurjehan, Shahjehan, and two grandchildren from my sister, Nurjehan. She is married and she lives in Winter Spring, Florida. She has two children Frankie born in Dec 9, 1989, Whitney born in Dec 29, 1994.
