In Memory of Fay Howell Reavis

Lizzie Fay Howell Reavis
August 7, 1916 - May 26, 1990

Fay was the wife of James L. Reavis, a current member of Flat Rock. They reared three children, all three receiving their early spiritual foundations from Flat Rock Church.

Fay was a prime example of a Christian wife, mother, friend, and neighbor. When she died in 1990, the service held at Flat Rock Church was overflowing, a testimony to the many friends she had developed over her lifetime, and the lives she had touched. She was known as a person who would do anything for her fellow neighbor. No one ever went to her house when she never gave you sometime to take home with you - be it vegetables or chocolate pie. She definitely had the gift of mercy.

While she married a Reavis, her mother was also a Reavis. She was a descendant of Samuel and Nancy Reavis, who located in the area in 1789 (100 years before Flat Rock Church was chartered). Samuel and Nancy Reavis were also ancestors to many of the charter members of Flat Rock. Fay was proud of the house she and James lived in, as it was built by Samuel Jones Reavis (Samuel's son) in 1790.

She was known for several sayings:

  • Your sins will surely find you out.
  • A bird never flew so high, that every once in awhile, has to come down and dust off his tail feathers.
  • There are alot of people here this Christmas who will not be here next Christmas.
