Buncombe County Rescue is certified at the EMT- Intermediate level as an Advanced Life Support Provider with the State of North Carolina.  We have two EMS units, a 1994 Ford Type I and a 1995 Ford Type I.  In addition, the Chief's car is equipped as an EMT- Intermediate Quick Response Vehicle (QRV) for initial response and initiation of patient care.

The paid crew's operate on 2 rotating shifts working 3 days on, 1 day off, 3 days on, and 7 days off on 12 hour shifts per day.  They respond to emergency and non-emergency calls throughout Buncombe County and are dispatched by the Buncombe County Emergency Operations Center, located in downtown Asheville.  Currently, we have 4 full time EMT- I's and 3 part time EMT-I's.  Volunteers may be active in the EMS division to the extent of their certification.
