The Bicycle
Emergency Response Team (BERT) was formed in Fall 2000 for use in
situations where medical care may be delayed to patients due to emergency
vehicles being unable to access a location due to large groups of people
or street closures due to a large event.
The BERT consists of four riders, 1 EMT- Intermediate, 1 EMT- Basic, and 2 First Responders with CPR and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training. The EMT- Intermediate's bicycle is equipped with a defibrillator, oxygen, IV fluids, and all required drugs as well as basic medical equipment for the purpose of rapid Advanced Life Support interventions in situations such as festivals or fairs, exhibits, or outdoor activities with a large attendance of participants when an ambulance may be delayed. In these situations, BERT would already be on site for these events and prepared for emergencies. The personnel usually ride in pairs, dependant upon the size and needs of specific situations. For more information on BERT, or to request medical stand by for large events, please call or e-mail us. |
