GOVERMENTAL AFFAIRS




Durham- After facing staunch opposition from firefighters and police officers, the city council voted to hold off on a proposed reduction in worker's compensation levels. The council voted 10-2 to send the plan back to the council's Insurance subcommittee. Nearly 50 firefighters and uniformed police officers attended the meeting.


Raleigh- On April 25th the Professional Firefighters and Paramedics Association of North Carolina along with the IAFF, sponsored a chili luncheon with the State Senators and Representatives. There were Firefighters from all over North Carolina in attendence.


National- Landmark documents NFPA 1710 and 1720 were overwhelmingly passed by 3500 NFPA members attending the NFPA World Fire Safety Congress & Exposition in Anaheim CA. IAFF General President Harold Schaitberger aid of 1710's passage, "this is going to chart the course for the future of firefighting and EMS".
