The Older Generation

Angelfire is:

An Older Friend

Does time go by so fast that I have to wonder where I will be in 20 years?

I work in a supermarket. I see people of all ages and the ones that fascinate me most are the older ones. I have a special customer I see once a week. When she turns the corner she always says, "There's the pretty lady." I don't consider myself pretty, but flattery will ger HER everywhere. If I am not with a customer, I will talk to her and she is one of the sweetest and wisest women I have ever met (besides my grandma).

I have to explain this woman. Of course, the only time that I have ever seen her was in the supermarket.

She is 97 years of age, and she says that she thanks the Lord every morning for allowing her to be here.

She lives in her own house and does her own cleaning and cooking (basically her own housework). She has seen people come and go and the Good Lord has blessed her with her children. Her daughter always comes to the store with her.

One day we were talking and I asked the daughter what it was like to be raised by this enchanting woman. She said, "She had a lot of patience and we knew when we were scolded. We were never spanked but she could really make you listen."

With all this, I asked the mom, "What has made you the woman that you are?" She said only 1 word..."God"

We are all searching for things in our lives. We want to know who we really are and what we are doing here. I don't know the answers to this, but maybe we should start thanking GOD for allowing us to be here.

I am so afraid of death, but it really isn't any different from leaving your community and saying goodbye to your friends. We will always exist. We are in their minds and hearts forever. If we leave, they can still keep in contact just by talking to us.

I wonder sometimes what we really expect out of life. I am not perfect, by all means, and I tend to look at the future when really I should be living from day to day. Instead I just exist. My goals in life are to live life to the fullest but right now society won't allow it. We have both parents working (probably for the rest of our lives) and no time for other things, much less, ourselves.

We should look at the world like my 97 year old friend and say, "Thank you Lord for allowing me to be here."
