Projects
The Media Center volunteers have been very busy!
Here are some of the things they do:
Routine Jobs:
- Straighten books on shelves by pushing in bookends
- Push in chairs
- Rewind, return to cases, and shelve videotapes
- Straighten and organize periodical (magazine and newspaper) shelves
- Put at least ten books on each table in Easy Street
- Display two books on each bookshelf in Easy Street
- Straighten catalog computer stations after a class has circulated (collect shelf markers, put pencils back in cups, throw away used call slips, push in chairs, etc.)
- Collect misplaced books around Media Center and put them on shelving carts
- Put separated pieces of kits together
- Neatly pile books on project centers
- Recycle newspapers
- Select a book for storytime and Swifty's "Pick of the Week"
Periodic Jobs (as needed):
- Check to see that there are a sufficient number of pencils and call slips at each catalog computer
- Dust shelves
- Wipe tables
- Dust computer screens
- Water plants
- Dust keyboards with paintbrushes
- Repair books
- Create spine labels and barcodes
- Check in and shelve magazines
- File catalogs
- Weed catalogs and periodicals
Special Projects:
- Call companies for invoices
- Help with inventory
- Cut laminated items
- Compare purchase considerations with Athena to make sure that we don't already own a copy of the book
- Xerox materials
- Arrange book displays
- Paint windows
- Take pictures
- Update website
- Format disks
- Pull books on bibliographies for teachers
- Deliver materials to classrooms and school office
- Clean remotes with Q-tips and alcohol
- "Read" a shelf to ensure it is in Dewey Decimal order
- Put call numbers on spines of books
