The 2004 Danny Boone Memorial Golf Classic

John 15:13 says, "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." Danny Boone made the ultimate sacrifice. He gave his life so that his brother might go on living. Danny loved children, and more than anything else, he wanted to see them succeed. His premature death in 1999 inspired the Young Adult Sunday School class at Pleasant Gap to establish a scholarship fund in his memory.

The Danny Boone Scholarship Fund will help deserving students from Yancey County with the means to continue their education without having to worry with the financial pressures of the first year of college. Now in its fifth year, $1,000 scholarships have been presented to 14 students who have furthered their education in college.

The first Danny Boone Memorial Golf Classic was held on Wednesday, August 30, 2000 at Mt. Mitchell Golf and Country Club on Highway NC 80 South near Burnsville, NC. The tournament raised just over $6,500 that was designated in a special fund for scholarships. A total of 85 players participated, including many who were friends of Danny and his family and who share his dream of making opportunity for all.

The 2004 Danny Boone Memorial Golf Classic will again be held at the Mount Mitchell Golf and Country Club next summer. Plan to participate now to help keep his dream alive. For more information, write to:
