Poetry I have written in Egypt
by Ginger Strivelli

Ra rises over Giza (written after my first trip in 2005)

Ra rises mystically glowing
Over the Sphinx so knowing
Lighting Giza up bright
With a dawn almost white.

Ra shines protectively down
Upon the sacred ground
Of the awesome Giza Plateau
Blessing the camel riders below.

Ra arcs regally above
The ancient pyramids of
Giza’s magical Holy Land
And the Sphinx crouching in the sand.

Ra reaches his height at noon
Baking each and every sand dune
Warming the day even more so
And the tourists as they come and go.

Ra begins to sink low
Falling to Earth slow
Brewing the afternoon with heat
As with Isis he prepares to meet

Ra sets over the old Sphinx
Goodnight to the cat, he winks
Like countless millions of nights before
Ra is setting over Giza, a sight I adore.

lines written in Egypt on 11-14-11

As I sit watching the pyramids of Giza appearing out of the haze
I thank the Gods that I am getting to once again upon Egypt, gaze
Seeing the ancient and noble Sphinx with my own two eyes
hearing the call to prayer as the Sun God Ra is about to rise.
walking through the sands of time, reliving history
feeling, smelling, experiencing, and absorbing Egypt into me
with only a couple of days to linger this visit
I'm still so thrilled to, at least today, not miss it.

Lines written on my 5th Egypt trip in March 2014

I'm back home in Egypt
where I can just sit
and watch the Giza sands
blow through Father Time's hands
Listening to the camels prance
with the horses pulling chariots
along Sphinx street below
my Inn room's open window
The orb of Ra is setting fast
if only my vacations would last
endlessly like Egypt's mystery
throughout all of history
Hathor knows how I love
Her land and Isis' moon seen above
the stars shining below
as I watch the sound and light show
after exploring ancient temples at noon
lamenting that I must leave too soon
Oh Hapi, great God of the Nile
grant that I will return in a little while.
