The Messer Family met at Panther Creek Baptist Church on September 13, 2003 at 10:00 a. m. and it was an exciting day for everyone who was there. There were over about seventy people in attendance with persons from the descendants of Christian and Solomon Messer and Thomas Messer of Western North Carolina and of the Messer Families in attendance. There were people in attendance from North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky and South Carolina. Some special guests who were with us this year were Jennings and Gail Krahenbuhl and Lois Oliver, and her son, Jon, of Greenmount, Laurel County, KY. Jennings is a member of the Edward F. Arthur Camp #1783, Sons of Confederate Veterans, Corbin, KY, and he was my contact person for the event that was held in KY. Jake Burrell, Derrick Shipman and his son, John were also in attendance at our event, as well as the event in KY. They represented the Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp Julius Welch #229, Canton, NC. I presented Jennings and Derrick & Jake with with video tapes of the event and CDs with the pictures that was taken on that wonderful day to take back to their camps and brigades. Jennings also took a video tape and CD back to the Laurel County Historical Society as the first copy of the book, The Registry - The Family of Frederick Messer - The Old Man of The Hills, was presented to the Laurel County Historical Society on June 28, 2003 and dedicated to Conrad Messer, son of Frederick "Uncle Fed" Messer, and William W. Feltner, the father of of Lois Feltner Oliver. The Messer Family Reunion will meet on September 11, 2004 at Panther Creek Baptist Church from 10 AM until 5 PM or until the last person has left. Please bring enough food for you and your family and any family information and pictures that you would like to share. We will be doing a Messer Family Cookbook for next years reunion and I am asking for submissions of family favorites to include in this publication. We hope to sell this cookbook at a reasonable cost to help with the cost of future reunions or any projects that the reunion majority may vote on at the event in the future. I hope to see you on September 11, 2004 and in the meantime, you can contact me at winsong8@bellsouth.net. I will try to answer any questions you might have on your family history and will gladly share information with you. Brenda Messer |
