Crix Madine

"We have stolen a small Imperial shuttle. Disguised as a cargo ship, and using a secret Imperial code, a strike team will land on the moon and deactivate the shield generator."
                    --Crix Madine

Crix Madine was a highly decorated and well-known Imperial officer before coming to the Alliance. A graduate from the Imperial Academy, Madine was a genius squadron leader. His pride in his squadron lay in the fact that they never took any unnecessary liberties during a battle, therefore there were few fatalities. His tactics, however, were frowned upon by most members of the Imperial forces.

Angered by the Empire's wasteful and useless practices, Madine erased all Imperial records of himself and joined the Alliance right after the Battle of Yavin with a friend, Carlist Rieekan (later the general in charge of Echo base). Rumor has it that his defection from the Empire was also spurred by a set of highly-criminal orders from Emperor Palpatine. These orders went against Madine's own sensibilities and morals, so he refused to carry them out. The Alliance welcomed Madine due of his thorough knowledge of Imperial codes and tactics and his superb battle strategies. Rumor has it that his defection from the Empire was also spurred by a set of highly-criminal orders from Emperor Palpatine. These orders went against Madine's own sensibilities and morals, so he refused to carry them out.

During the Battle of Endor, General Madine was in charge of the expedition to destroy the shield generator on the forest moon of Endor. He recruited General Han Solo to lead the strike team. During his involvement in the Rebel Alliance, Madine was charged with developing the Alliance's ground tactics while Admiral Ackbar developed space combat tactics.

After the successful Battle of Endor, Madine turned down a seat on the Provisional Council, saying "I am a warrior, not a politician." He chose to remain with the New Republic's growing military division. He became the Republic's Commander of Special Forces and assembled a strike team of commandos, who were prepared to enter any situation for the sake of the Republic.

Madine's last flight was in the Hoth Asteroid Field, where he and his squadron were trying to determine the status of Durga the Hutt's Death Star revision, called the Dark Saber. Madine and his two wingmen, Korenn and Trandia, flew into the asteroid field with him. Korenn died while entering the field, and Trandia sacrificed himself attempting to give Madine a chance to escape. Madine's pride overrode his will to live, however, and he did not take advantage of Trandia's sacrifice. Madine was captured and Durga shot Madine through the heart with a blaster bolt aboard Dark Saber. Durga, however, died on the station when it was crushed between two planetoids in the Hoth asteroid field.
