The Jim Whittington Field

A special pin for a special person. Jim Whittington was instrumental in building this field in Dilworth, NC and he founded the Dilworth League. I was fortunate to have known Jim and to have managed teams on the field for 11 years. I videotaped the event when the field was first officially dedicated in his honor. I say "officially" because, I guess it was always considered to be Mr. Whittington's field. The facility has since been renovated and is now, probably, one of the finest youth baseball parks in the United States. Please take a moment to read the Memoriam below. Proud For Our Memory of Him

Jim and his wife Jan were regular fixtures at the World Series. They always accomodated my players and me as if we were VIP's at Willaimsport, inviting us to special banquets, barbeques and other special ceremonies and arranging for our rooms close to the stadium. While he is sorely missed, we know that the spirit of Jim Whittington will live on forever in Williamsport.
