Thoughts for the Day:
The first part of our reading today is the familiar story of Jesus calling the disciples. Simon had been fishing all day when Jesus came along and said, "put out in deep water and let down the nets for a catch". Can you think of an area of your life where you are experiencing frustration trying to do something on your own? What would happen if you let Jesus take control of that situation?
Perhaps all that is required is that we respond like the man with leprosy in verse 12..."Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean." What would happen if you made this your prayer each day during Lent?
Finally, take note of verse 16. What does this verse tell you about Jesus? What does it tell you about you?
Fasting Update:
One week down! Only five and a half to go! I'm hearing a lot about your fasts. Brother Stephen Faulk told me last night he is giving up soft drinks for Lent. The same is true for Ryan Rudicill. I don't know how Pepsi and Coke can stay in business without these two.
Just a reminder to make your fast a spiritual discipline...not just a test of your will. Combine your fast with a spirit of prayer. I've discovered that by not eating out during Lent, I have additional time by myself...and with God. As you fast, keep asking yourself, "what can God teach me through this experience?".
Remember, if Jesus needed time alone with God, then you KNOW we do!
Keep up the good work!
