Thoughts for the Day:
Sometimes, the sheer timing of things gets your attention. This very passage was the lesson for my Sunday School class yesterday. Maybe there's a message here I really need to hear...
Jesus is questioned about the relationship between sin and suffering in the world. He quickly points out that suffering is like the rain...it falls on the righteous AND the unjust. But he also adds that since the world IS so full of suffering, we should be even more serious about our relationship to God. After all, we don't know what tomorrow will hold. The most important thing then, (see verse 3 and 5) is to repent.
What is the difference between an apology and true repentence?
What is the parable of the fig tree all about? What could happen in that final year? What does this say about God's grace?
To whom are you accountable? To God? To your parents? To your small group? Others? What does being accountable have to do with repentence?
Fasting Update:
I can't tell you how much it helps me in my fast to be accountable to you. When you tell me about your fast, it makes we want to do my best too. And since you know about my fast, it gives me the extra strength to follow through with my commitments.
The thought of just having one meal out this weekend definately entered my mind this weekend. Just one quick stop at the Japanese restaurant. Just one piping hot plate of Tereyaki Chicken with Broccoli...hmmmmm...
But I couldn't do it. I made a covenant with you and I'm going to do my best to keep it. Thank you for keeping me accountable.
The Worship Service yesterday was AWESOME! Thank you, everyone, for your tremendous leadership through song, scripture readings, and testimonies.
Have a good Monday!
