Thoughts for the Day:
What do you notice about the version of the Lord's Prayer in Luke's Gospel? (compare with Matt. 6:9-13)
What is Jesus saying about prayer with the illustration of the friend at the door at midnight? How bold is your prayer life?
In verses 14-20, why were the people so skeptical? Why was it easier for them to believe Jesus was Beelzebub rather than the Messiah? How do you respond to God's work in your life...is it easier to believe in coincidence, good fortune, science, technology, or your own abilities?
Jesus compares himself to Jonah in verse 32. Jonah called upon the Ninevites to repent from their acts of cruelty and injustice. What might Jesus be calling on you to repent from today?
As you pray today, remember that Lent is a season of self-examination and repentence. Take time to confess your sins and allow God to make you into a "new creation"!
Fasting Update:
I think the purpose of fasting is to create a SPACE in your normal routine that could be filled with meditation and prayer. But I've noticed that even when you fast there is a temptation to fill that space with just more "stuff".
Not eating out has definately broken up my normal method of operation but now I find myself eating whole bags of Lime Tostitos in a single day! It's like a person giving up caffeine for Lent...but then to combate the withdrawal, they start smoking!
How about you? Is your fast a spiritual discipline...or just a minor inconvenience that you've learned to deal with? Any testimonies? Any suggestions?
