Thoughts for the Day:
The stories of the Good Samaritan and the account of Jesus visiting the home of Mary and Martha are two of the most familiar passages of Scripture. But today, reading them together, back to back, helped me to hear something new.
In both situations, the people who were seen in a negative light (the priest, the Levite, and then Martha), were all religious people going about their obligations. But the heroes in each story (the good Samaritan and Mary) were able to see the BIG picture and do that which was MOST important.
Do you ever feel that you are so busy trying to "do good" that you are failing to actually LOVE God and neighbor? What would it take for you to see the big picture?
As you pray today, seek to be like Mary, who fell at the Lord's feet in order to listen better (v. 39).
Fasting Update:
How's this for a kick in the teeth? The church staff went OUT to lunch yesterday to "celebrate" MY birthday (which, incidentally, was a month ago). Never-you-mind that I'm fasting for Lent by not eating out! AUGH!!!
So there I sat, at the Emporium, while they all chowed down. I watched longingly as they put each delicate morsel of goodness into their mouths. I watched in horror as they did not eat all of their french fries or even touch their dill pickle spears. What a cruel and thoughtless group of people!
Just kidding, it really wasn't so bad. I enjoyed their company...and of course, ate a sandwhich when I got home. Everytime I start to complain, I realize how ridiculous it sounds...
Hope your fast is going well. I'm praying for you!
