Lenten Devotional Guide - April 6

Today's Scripture Reading:
Luke 18:18-43

Thoughts for the Day:
Do you ever feel like the rich young ruler...you live a pretty good life and you don't do anything majorly wrong so you just want a little recognition and approval?

But Jesus responds to the man by saying, You seem to have one foot in heaven and one foot in the world. Don't give me a little bit here and a little bit there...i want ALL of you!

To give your life completely to God (your possessions, your money, your time, your need for control, your heart) may seem like an absolutely impossible and unrealistic task. But Jesus adds, "What is impossible with men is possible with God."

As we approach the cross this week, ask yourself, am I willing to let God work the impossible in my life?

Fasting Update:
I wonder if the employees of all the local restaurants I frequent have missed me during Lent. I miss them. I miss the way they look at me with a big smile and say, "do you want biggie fries with that?" I miss the way I can order a complete meal with the announcement of a single number ("I want the number 2"). I also miss the sweet, sweet voice on the other end of the drive-thru microphone ("Wah-wah-wah-waaaah...")

I don't miss all the waxpaper wrappers, plastic cups, styrofoam containers, paper napkins, paper placemats, straws (that i never use), and sporks (no offense jason alexander). I also don't miss how I have to take a major grunt (pardon my french) after each fast food visit.

I hope you are finding that you can go without whatever it is that you are fasting this year. Whenever we get to a point where we can't walk away from something (like in the story of the rich young ruler), we definately need to re-examine our lives.

Jesus said, "I have come that you might have life and have it more abundantly."

See you soon!
-Kelly
