Lenten Devotional Guide - April 11

Today's Scripture Reading:
Luke 21

Thoughts for the Day:
Jesus talks with his disciples here about the coming destruction of the temple (which happened at the hands of the Romans in the year 70) and the end of the age when the Son of Man returns.

The images are dramatic and even graphic. The things of this world will become more and more corrupt...but the promise of God's ultimate victory is inevitable.

Meanwhile, we wait. We live among sickness and war and hatred and death. But Jesus challenges us to be "always on the watch" for the kingdom of God. How well does your life reflect this idea? Are you on the watch?

Fasting Update:
I have already begun making plans for my first meal out after Lent. I think my first choice is the fast food Japanese restaurant near Roses. I always get the same thing so the employees there know to have a "terreyaki chicken with broccoli" as soon as I walk in the door. I'm looking forward to seeing them again.

I'm even more excited about celebrating the risen Lord on Easter Sunday. I'm looking foward to seeing all of you as we worship and sing some of the most joyful songs in the hymnbook. It will be a great day.

But in the meantime, we still must walk through the dark hours of Holy Week. We should take this seriously, but we should also keep an eye on Easter. May the promise of Easter see you through the trials of this day...
