Today is Lady Laura's birthday. At midnight I gave her a big kiss and sang Happy Birthday to her. I didn't buy her a birthday gift because the four tires I put on her car drained my bank account as well as my wallet - even the moths that live there left town for greener places. She smiled as I sang but I knew that inside she was wishing I'd stop singing. I know that because of an incident that happened a number of years ago on her birthday.

I was driving over-the-road truck so I was not home on her special day. After much convincing from my co-driver, I finally agreed to call Laura to sing Happy Birthday to her. As soon as I heard the phone being picked up I started my serenade. It was only after I finished singing, that the voice at the other end of the line informed me that it was the wrong number.

“Oh I’m sorry” I said, embarrassed.

“It’s OK”, the voice said, “you can use all of the practice you can get!”
