The opinions expressed in the Editor’s Rant! Are the opinions of the writer and not necessarily the opinions of the other members of the Original Comic Creator’s Club. Any questions or responses to this article please post in the club. To draw or not to draw that is the question.
Why do artists want to draw comics? Why should you as an artist make comic pages? I think that these are questions we as members and participators in producing club comics here at the OCCC need to ask ourselves.
Now myself I am a big fan of doing pages not only for practice but also to hear other’s remarks. I feel it is important to the success of the club and the comics to have intelligent discussion and comments about each other’s works.
Still I have to ponder to myself as I read artist’s comments (and yes sometimes my own as well) if they understand what makes doing comic books rewarding and what will truly help them to want to keep doing them and improving their craft.
The reason you should draw pages and constantly try to work on your abilities, and the person you should be doing this for, is yourself.
If you do not choose to do your pages for yourself and mostly for your own personal entertainment you will soon find that no matter how much or how little feedback you receive it wont be enough to keep your interest.
So while this article is short and too the point this week, I feel that it makes a good point to us all. Draw pages and post them for your own entertainment. If everyone likes them, if everyone hates them, if no one says anything or doesn’t look at them, it doesn’t matter. All that is important is that you produce your work because it is what you want to do. The rest will take care of its-self.
Still as Stupid as Ever...
