Enter: Editor's Rant!
The opinions expressed in the Editor’s Rant! Are the opinions of the writer and not necessarily the opinions of the other members of the Original Comic Creator’s Club. Any questions or responses to this article please post in the club. Well I would like to welcome everyone to the VERY first installment of the Editors’ Rant! Here on the Original Comics Club’s Club Comic page. Man, that was a mouth full, next time I think I will say: “The OCCC’s Club Project Page”. Which of those two slogans do you think sounds the best?
Since this is our very first shot with the Editor’s Rant! On the OCC…. Uh you know, I think I will try to explain what it is supposed to be about before I get started. This column will be written either by Don or myself, and will be the thoughts and ideas of either Don or me and not necessarily any other member of the OCCC. Any thoughts or rants you wish to make please make them in the club in a post; because, let’s face it, it’s always good to pitch a fit about something.
I want to use this venue to give my biased and always present opinion about everything from Image to that teenage harlot Brittany, but I feel I am forced, yet blessed, to tell you all this very important phrase here in our first and historic Editor’s Rant!
Ok now, are you ready” Well then, here it goes………………..
“I have a dream!”
Ok, ok, I know that isn’t a very original statement for me to make, especially here in a club with the word Original in the title, and I also know it was used originally by a man 10,000 times greater than me, speaking for causes which are light-years more important than our club, but I still find the statement to be true and relevant to the hopes I have for our little club.
I created this club in hopes of having a place where people of like mind, and people who feel the need to learn from and communicate with other individuals who share the same dream, or love, of creating comic books, can come and find these kindred spirits in one common place; because, let’s face it, in the real world we are a rare and shy lot. One of the few good things that I can find about the internet is that there can be places like our club where you can meet and greet people from all over the world who share the same interests.
Now with the culmination of our ever-growing projects page, I feel that not only are we as a club closer to that goal, but we are helping to cement it and preserve it for a decent time yet to come. Our club is showing signs of not being like most of the other Comic Book related clubs here at yahoo, and fading away because of founders and members who only possess short attention spans and seem to have little room for hard work and respecting other members art and opinions. So I think it is very important to share with you all some of my dreams of how our blessed projects page can grow and evolve with our great club.
Of course we have the club comic books which I think we all have grown not only to love, but also eagerly anticipate the next installment. I think it is also clear that we amateur comic book wanna bes have more often than not shown great improvement with each new posting of our personal and project pages. I believe that this is because of the direct involvement and discussion with, our fellow peers here in the OCCC.
Also let us not forget our new and quickly growing attempts called “Writers Projects” which we have made to make room for those ever important and swell aspiring comic book writers. These projects, and the projects that have evolved from them show a club with a strong base and members who possess willful hearts towards the creating and pure love for comic books. But did you know that our future holds even greater and more interactive club projects and opportunities for our members?
One hope I have for our club, and our Club Comics Page, is to create a club Flash comic. This is obviously a bit off in the distance, but I think it will be a fun and entertaining way for us to learn, create and help shape the future of the club and the medium itself. Now while this venture will cost me a bit of money, and will take me a while to plan for and produce, and then find club members who are interested and capable of helping- I am making my way to actually make it a reality! So everyone be sure to give your comments and opinions in the club.
Another great thing about the projects page, is its ability to bring the club members, and those that view the page closer together, and may hopefully help to bring attention to either present undertakings of our members, or even future dealings they may have planed. It is my goal for the Club Comics Page to make a type of commune where its members can come together and plug their ideas and projects, and then us the other members can rally around and support them.
One quick and easy way you can become involved in this is our new evolving links section on the site. If you have a site link it to our project page, and give us your URL (and or) web site banner, and cash in on our ever growing traffic.
As you may have noticed, our club’s site is presently on Angelfire a free web site hosting service. Now while Angelfire is great, and the site seems to work ok for now, it is a goal of mine, and one which I have already began to shape into reality, to make our site an actual real place, meaning, a real dot com or a paid web site. Of course it will always be free to the public, I just mean I am going to make it into a respectable page so it no longer has that looming staleness of being hosted on a free charity web provider.
“How can we club members help?”, well I’m glade you asked that. If I may be so forward as to ask you all where you go on the web to buy junk. You see I am making associate links on the page in order to hopefully make a little money, and no this is not just some capitalist pig endeavor, I want to use it to help make the projects page, and the flash comic, and the other ideas and plans for this club a reality. You see if you go to amazon.com to buy stuff, then you can go through our club’s link, get your products for the exact same price, but help me out by buying your products from that club link. That is why we need you to share what you like to buy, and often purchase, off the Internet. Presently I have acquired affiliates from Amazon.com, Next Planet Over.com, Coupons.com and some others to place on the club page. I am looking into finding places that sell art supplies and whatever else place members like or use often. Anyway, enough of that crap, it is really just an experiment, and probably wont work, but feel free to give your opinions on it.
As always we still need more people to sign up for the club projects and we always want more people to take time and log into the club and grace us not only with your appearance, but also your opinions.
If you have a friend, or associate, that is interested in creating comics, invite them to the club and help it to become a more active and helpful experience for us all.
Well I think that is about all I have to say for now, I hope this column will be about a weekly deal, and I also hope to con Don into doing the next installment. I think if we all demand it, he will do it. Heck if you have ever read the last pages of his self produced comic Riot Squad you know how much he likes to rant on about this and that, so it shouldn’t be a problem.
So to end this our first outing of the Editor’s Rant! I need to figure out some catchy phrase to end it with and sign my miserable little name-so here is goes-
Excelsior! (Wait that has been used)
Syanoria (man I’ll never learn how to spell that)
Hmmmmm “It’s clobbering time!” nope that’s not it…
Still Stupid:
Dwayne Ferguson.
(Ah that’s the ticket!)
