June 2003 newsletter

NEWSLETTER DISTRIBUTION

This newsletter is distributed via e-mail only. Every assembly has at least one officer on the distribution list. I ask those who receive it to make sure their FN and FC get a copy in a timely manner. Thank you.

COLOR CORPS, FINAL

As the final paragraph(s) on this subject, I will briefly touch on several things:

  1. * The Honor Guard Commander must always coordinate his participation in every event with the person in charge.

  2. * The Honor Guard is never to invert the sword during a Present Sword or Arch Sword activity.

  3. * The Commander must ensure that members of his Honor Guard are properly trained, and look and act professional.

  4. * Care must be taken in the drawing and returning of the sword so as to be noiseless.

  5. * Whenever the flag is formally posted at the beginning of a ceremony or event, the flag must be retired after the event.

  6. * The Color Guard must ensure the U. S. flag is always on the right during the march when it is being posted or being retired. After it is posted, it must be on the left as viewed by the audience.

  7. * When marching, the Honor Guard must keep in step. Normal military step cadence is used. Keep in step with the man in front of you.

"TO BE A PATRIOT" AWARD

Send me your best community patriotic activity for the year on form TBP-2, with pictures and write-up to assist in the judging, no later than June 30. You have received information about it from Supreme. The FN (or his designee) from the winning assembly will be given two dinner tickets to the Exemplification in October.

“CIVIC” AWARD

Send your 4 varied patriotic programs for the fraternal year to Supreme on form #2321 before June 30.

 EXEMPLIFICATION IN 2003

The Exemplification in 2003 will be at the Renaissance Suites in Charlotte on October 18. The room rate is $96 per night for Friday and Saturday. You may make reservations now at (704) 357-1414 or (800) 468-3571. It is a super hotel - you will love it. Plan on attending.  The candidate’s fee, set by Supreme, is $65 and includes his dinner. The dinner cost for others is $41 and the ladies luncheon is $16. There will be continental breakfast served by the host assemblies Saturday and Sunday mornings for those attending the dinner.

Honoree: The honoree for this degree will be Sir Knight Edward Comiskey from assembly 2208 Charlotte. Many of you know him so you know he is an excellent choice and very deserving of the honor.

Note to Faithful Comptrollers:  When you get a form 4, keep it and send all of them together with the assembly check and registration form. Do not send the form 4 to me without the money or registration form. Get your ducks in line, and about 6 weeks before the exemplification (I will let you know the drop dead date), gather things together and send everything – candidates and guests money – with the proper form. I will have the exemplification notice at the State Organization meeting, and I will send the registration form to each newly elected FC and FN sometime in July. I have trouble keeping everything straight if I get several pieces from an assembly at different times instead of all at once.  Thank you.

Everyone - spread the word.  At the exemplification there are no meetings, just the degree and socials. The socials start Friday evening, so even though all the “official” action takes place on Saturday, plan on getting there on Friday to get “ready” and to visit with fellow knights. We have access to the clubroom for all the unofficial action, and the host assemblies have promised a great atmosphere.

NOW is the time to start recruiting new members. Council officers, directors and chairmen are prime candidates - they are interested and dedicated knights. We need them as Fourth Degree members. Visit the councils in your area and talk it up. GO GET-EM.

ADS IN EXEMPLIFICATION PROGRAM

I need the help of as many assemblies as can afford it. Please plan on taking out an ad in the exemplification program book. When you make out your budget next month, include money for this - $75 for a full page, $50 for a half page. A page is 5½ X 8½. Information will be sent to the new FN in August.

ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS

If you have not done so, conduct your elections ASAP. Please send, immediately after the elections, the name, address, telephone number, wife name and e-mail address of the new FN, FC, Commander and Friar to the District Secretary (shown below). Please do not make him call you for this info. It must be to him before June 21. If you have not had your elections, please make an educated guess and we can correct it in a newsletter if it turns out to be wrong.  Attached to this newsletter sent to the FN’s and FC’s are forms you can use if you wish, or you can use the form on the State K of C Website.
