Tess was my aussie puppy that had the pedigree of my dreams. I searched for several years for an aussie puppy from strong Las Rocosa working lines before I decided to call Jim Hartnagle. He is absolutely wonderful and thanks to him, I have my little girl, Tess (better known as Wickett). Jim asked me what my ideal puppy would look like and I told him it would be a black-bi female. Well, Tess was the ONLY black-bi in the litter of all red-merles, and she was a female. Talk about meant to be! Below are some pictures of Tess while she was still at Jim's home in Colorado:

Below are some pictures of Tess during her first few weeks with me.

Tess is definitely a challenging puppy. She is independent, yet she follows me all around the house just to be with me. Anywhere I am in the house, all I have to do is reach out, and I will be able to touch her. Tess is cautious of strangers trying to touch her, yet is incredibly loving and friendly with those whom she trusts. She is a highly intelligent puppy and quickly learns any task. My plans for her are Flyball (she has the potential to be an awesome height dog), agility, obedience, and herding. Her first time on stock was absolutely amazing and she completely wowed a crowd of border collie people.

The Flyball team I am on, Blockade Runners, is based in Raleigh, NC. If you are interested in finding out about the sport of flyball, visit the Flyball Homepage

Tess is not the dog for everyone. Although she is great in public and can be taken anywhere, her caution around strangers trying to pet her, as well as her extreme possessiveness, is a challenge for me. This is not something a pet home could handle. Unfortunately, this has become something that I can no longer handle. I love Tess with all my heart, but I feel she would be best in a working home, so her breeder was wonderful and found her one. Tess is an extremely high energy, self-willed puppy that will make a great competition or ranch dog, so I know she will be very happy in her new home.

Tess absolutely adores the people she trusts and is truly wonderful with them. So much, in fact, she has earned the nickname LochTess Monster since she goes crazy with affection when around them. Tess is also an incredible cuddler and will snuggle for hours. She is a little clown with the greatest sense of humor and sweetest smile. I just wish she had been able to show others this wonderful side. Tess is a truly phenomenal dog whom I love with all my heart. To give her up has been one of the most difficult things I have ever done in my life. I will miss her forever.

Because of my failure with Rika, I worked extremely hard to build Tess' confidence right from the beginning since she was soft and shy. However, again I failed my beloved dog. Since Tess is the second time I have failed with a soft and shy dog, I have decided that my heart can't take me owning these types of dogs anymore. I also learned that I will never trust anyone elses judgement of a dog or puppy. I will only have dogs that I picked out myself. I know exactly what I want in a dog and I only trust myself in picking it out. When I choose the dogs myself, I don't end up heartbroken.
